Sterling turns silver

What were you doing in 1982? That question was posed to us last week as Sterling International marked our 25th anniversary.

We know what our founder Rod Schneidmiller was doing back in 1982. He was mixing dried materials in the garage of a tiny Millwood, Washington house to come up with a fly attractant based on an idea he had for a consumer insect trap. With his reusable trap for flies, our company was born.

He spent the next few years trying to convince retailers and consumers why it's better to trap an insect than to spray it. We were ahead of the curve then, but now our insect traps are widely seen as a safer, smarter and environmentally friendly way to thwart pest bugs.

On June 21 -- the first official day of summer -- we celebrated Sterling's growth and continued success. Employees, family members, vendors, friends and other honored guests gathered in beautiful Mirabeau Meadows Park in Spokane Valley.

Guests enjoy refreshments and socializing.

A "memory walk" led participants up to the stage area for the program. This sign marks a milestone in company history in 1985, when our Disposable Fly Trap was introduced.

Rod gestures as he jokes about the military fly-over and precision parachute team that we would soon see in the skies above us.

David Condon, District Director for U.S. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, presents Rod with a plaque containing the text of a proclamation Rep. McMorris made on the floor of the House.

Rod presents David with a gift for Rep. McMorris Rodgers... a RESCUE! onesie for her new son, Cole.

In his speech, Rod talks about the hopes and dreams for the future that many of the company's management team had 25 years ago, and how most of the individuals have realized those dreams.

The entire group of employees and family members poses for a group shot.

It was a great celebration!

Just a quick testimonial. We recently moved to Connecticut after 35 years in So. Cal. I am a long time rose lover, and bought a home with a deer fence in order to enjoy them at our new home (roses = deer candy). I knew that japanese beetles were a problem here, even though I never encountered them in the West. When I saw your traps at Costco three weeks ago, I threw them in the cart, long before I saw even one. Today I put out your trap and within 5 hours I was astounded at how many of the voracious little critters were already denied a bite of the established but newly rehabilitated Autumn Sunsets or my precious newly planted Betty Boops. All I can say is "Thank you" for a truly great product and "YIPPEE" !!! I would never have guessed that I had such a serious infestation. The bag was almost one quarter full! Armageddon for beetles!

Best money I ever spent. Now I am sorry I didn't buy two 3-packs. I will not make that same mistake twice. I will recommend your product to everyone I know...and I am getting to know a lot of people!

Many thanks,
Mary Belmonte, Ridgefield, Ct.

Are there plans to sell the yellowjack traps in Australia? I would love to distribute them here! :)
